Dear Steamboat,

This is our community. We are a place where a ski patroller, a teacher, a line cook, and a fourth-generation rancher can all call the same few blocks home. That was purposeful and makes Steamboat the unique community it is.  But now housing and childcare costs are outpacing wages. Neighbors are leaving not because they want to, but because the math no longer works. 

That’s why we built this exhibit for you.

It is grounded in the stories of the people who call the Yampa Valley home: the neighbors, workers, and families experiencing firsthand how rising costs are changing our community.

Through their words, photographs, and videos, we invite you to meet the people behind the statistics. We hope you will listen to their experiences, consider how affordability touches your own life, and imagine what becomes possible when awareness turns into action.

Together, we can protect the history, character, and future of the Yampa Valley.

And ensure Steamboat remains a place where the people who power it can also afford to build a life
