The Ambassadors Program: Be the Voice That Moves a Mountain Town.

Steamboat is at a crossroads where many of the people who power the community- teachers, law enforcement, firefighters, caregivers, frontline staff and more- are at risk of leaving due to a lack of affordability. These are real people impacted by the issues. Your friends, your neighbors, your coworkers. Yet it is easy to think it doesn’t impact us. Steamboat For All strives to bring forward the real stories of Steamboat neighbors who are impacted by affordability; to highlight the people who make up our community.

What is the Storytelling Ambassadors Program?

In late 2025 Steamboat For All put out the call for nominations of Steamboat locals who love this valley, yet are on the verge of leaving due to affordability issues. We selected 16 individuals with diverse ages, backgrounds, jobs, and residency tenures who live and work in Routt County to be our inaugural group of Ambassadors and share their lived experiences to make a change in our community.

The Ambassadors convened for a weekend workshop in January 2026 to learn about the Public Narrative and how stories can change a moment and become a movement. Ambassadors received dedicated one-on-one training to bring their individual stories to life and realize the power of their experiences. Armed with support from each other, and Steamboat For All, the Ambassadors are ready to share their voices with community members of the Yampa Valley.

Join the Movement:
Your story could be the spark that helps keep Steamboat a place where everyone can live, work, and thrive. This is fun work. This is heart work.  This effort will not just energize you, it will mobilize our community.

**About Public Narrative: Developed by scholar and community organizer Marshall Ganz, Public Narrative is a practical approach that turns values into action by linking three stories—Self (why I care), Us (who we are together), and Now (our urgent call to action). The approach centers person-to-person relationships, roots stories in values, and helps align people around shared purpose and clear next steps.
